Letter : Hartford, to Dr. Morton, [Boston], Oct. 20, 1846.

Comments on the first use of William Morton's anesthesia device. Morton, a Boston dentist and former partner of Wells was one of the first to use ether as an anesthesia. In 1846, just two years after Horace Wells' anesthetic success with nitrous oxide, Dr. William Morton (1819-68), constructed the first anesthetic machine. Morton's machine was first tested on Oct. 16, 1846.
